Gurjeet Kaur Bains

Gurjeet is a loving mother and wife, who has also achieved in the business world as the first woman to chair the IAB. She came to Britain in 1961 and settled in Hertfordshire, a business partnership with her husband moved the family to Northamptonshire.

In 1991 Gurjeet won 'Business Woman of the Year' awarded to her for her contribution to the family retail business. Family commitments depicted that Gurjeet started working part-time which she did at the local rag in Northampton. To date Gurjeet is Editor of The Sikh Times, a weekly English Punjabi newspaper that is distributed nationally. She is also a board member of the Birmingham Chamber and Birmingham Divercity.

As Chairperson of the IAB Gurjeet has a vision to make the IAB a regional body, which will enable the IAB to be a recognised body driving forward the progress of Asian businesses. Amongst other key campaigns Gurjeet wants to introduce a youth element to the IAB, with awards at all three key religious dates in the Asian calendar.

She has recently won the Birmingham Asian Jewel Awards for her outstanding work in Media which proves she is a great asset to society and has expanded her network nationally as one of fifty Ambassadors for the 2012 Olympics.
